Two interesting reports from the Social and Cultural Planning Office 15.05.2008
The Social and Cultural Planning Office of the Netherlands has recently published two interesting reports. Facts & Figures of the Netherlands offers an overview of the most important social and cultural trends in the Netherlands between 1995 and 2006. These include trends in education, employment and income, and social participation.
The 152-page publication shows how the Dutch lived during this period and what has changed. The book also offers an insight into public opinion on politics, the government and European unification.
In Beter aan het werk. Trendrapportage ziekteverzuim, arbeidsongeschiktheid en werkhervatting, or Working Better; trend report on illness absenteeism, employment disability and returning to work, Gerda Jehoel-Gijsbers offers a view of Dutch developments in illness absenteeism, employment disability and returning to work. The report shows that many good results have been notched up in these fields in recent years. Illness absenteeism and the influx of those unable to work declined significantly. Thus illness absenteeism in the Netherlands dropped in 25 years from 10 per cent in 1980 to around 4 per cent in 2005. The report also shows worrying trends. The labour market participation of those with an employment disability dropped from 44 per cent in 2000 to 40 per cent in 2005. Beter aan het werk was produced in collaboration with the CBS and TNO Quality of Life.
The Social and Cultural Planning Office of the Netherlands is a scientific institute carrying out independent research and using it to provide advice to the Dutch government, either requested or otherwise.
