European Week for Safety and Health at Work

European Week 'Safe Start' 23 to 27 October 2006
Too many young people are injured at work. In Europe young people in the age group from 18 to 24 are at least 50% more likely to have an accident than employees in other age groups. Young people are also more susceptible to work-related illnesses that develop gradually. Behind the statistical data are stories of individual people: young people who for the rest of their lives will have to suffer the consequences of an accident or the effect on their health or who die while they had the whole of their lives before them.
You now have the opportunity to give young people a safe and healthy start to their career, and to promote risk awareness and prevention in companies and educational institutions.
The campaigns within the framework of the European Week aim to promote prevention at the workplace by involving all the interested parties in this subject. This year the subject is also brought to the attention of educational institutions in a wider context and of competent policy makers in the area of education. The Agency has already carried out a variety of projects relating to ‘the integration of health and safety in education’ and the campaign will continue to build on these.
The European Week was initiated by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work and was held at the same time in all member states. Further information on the European Week in the other member states is available on http://osha.europa.eu/campaigns/ew2006/. The European Week was organised in the Netherlands by Focal Point Nederland.
