European Week for Safety and Health at Work

European Week 'Construction Safety' 18 to 22 October 2004
The campaign highlights health and safety risks in the European construction sector and offers solutions in more than 30 countries in the whole of Europe. According to the organiser the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, healthy and safe working conditions in the European construction industry could save the lives of 1300 employees and prevent 850,000 serious injuries every year. By reducing the large number of accidents and work-related illnesses in this sector, the EU could save up to € 75 billion per year, asserts the Agency. The theme of the European Week 'Construction Safety' also includes work such as maintenance and renovation, removal of asbestos, preservation of monuments and historic buildings and the laying and maintenance of roads.

The European Week was initiated by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work and was held at the same time in all member states. More information on the European week in the other member states is available from http://osha.europa.eu/en/campaigns/ew2004/. The European Week was organised in the Netherlands by Focal Point Nederland.
