Joint Committee for the Hairdressing Industry wins European Good Practice Award 2003 with Healthy hairdresser: campaign to promote ‘healthy working’ in the hairdressing industry

Europese prijsuitreiking in Bilbao

Dutch winner (10,000 euros):
Brakel Interieurgroep – Use of a different kind of steel sheet; gain for working conditions, the environment and production

Because the steel sheet is no longer degreased, use of the degreasing bath is reduced by about 50%. As a result of this reduction, the employees are exposed to the solvents for a shorter time.
Moreover, as the steel sheets are not degreased, a production stage is omitted. This has resulted in a reduction in the production time by 12% and the cost price of the wall has considerably reduced.

If the degreasing had had to remain, a spray tunnel (alkaline) would probably have been bought, with the result that parts would have had to be hung on a belt twice (for degreasing and for spraying).

Second prize (5000 euros):
Glasatelier Oud Rijswijk – Safety first for glaziers! Approach at company and industry level
Glasatelier Oud Rijswijk is a traditional glazing company with 11 employees. The company carries out, among other things, restoration works on (stained) glass lead windows. The presence of lead dust in particular is a health risk to employees. The Good Practice submitted aims to achieve the optimum working conditions for restoration glaziers and to increase their expert knowledge and knowledge in the area of safety, health and the environment.
