European Week for Safety and Health at Work

European Week 'Working on Stress' 14 to 18 October 2002
The prevention of psychosocial risks at work is the subject of the European Week for Safety and Health at Work in 2002. Work-related psychosocial risks and their associated effects include stress, violent behaviour and intimidation (also called bullying or psychological intimidation). Millions of European employees from all business sectors suffer from psychosocial problems related to their work. More than 41 million employees in the EU suffer from stress as a result of their work, resulting in the loss of many millions of working days each year. The causes of stress and other psychosocial problems related to work can be prevented by arranging and approaching the work differently.
The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work organised the European Week Working on Stress in Bilbao together with the 15 member states and the chairmanship of the European Union. One of the supporting activities of this week was the presentation of prizes for good practices of working methods used to prevent psychosocial problems at work.
The European Week was initiated by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work and was held at the same time in all member states. More information on the European Week in the other member states is available on http://ew2002.osha.europa.eu/. The European Week was organised in the Netherlands by the Focal Point Nederland.
