Legislation for Training

TRAINING

In this section the legislative frame that regulates the training of Safety Technicians, Occupational Physicians, employers and employees is presented, as it is determined by the Act 1568/85 "Health and safety of workers" and by the P.D. 17/96 "Measures for the improvement of safety and health of workers at work in compliance with the directives 89/391/EOK and 91/383/EOK".


Ministerial Decisions and Circulars regarding these training courses are also presented.

Moreover, information on the institutions that develop educational activities in the field of Occupational Health and Safety are provided.

In the national OSH legislation the training of Safety Technicians and Occupational Physicians is provided.

The training of employers and employees who undertake the duties of Safety Technicians is also provided under certain prerequisites.

The terms and other requirements for the development of such training programs are determined each year by Ministerial Decisions.

Institutions for training

In this section, institutions that carry out training programmes for Safety Technicians, Occupational Physicians, employers and employees according to the legislative regulations are presented.

The institutions are obliged to submit to the General Directorate of Working Conditions of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs an application with all the required elements of each training programme.

The National Council for Health and Safety at Work  (S.Y.A.E.) is expressing its opinion
and a Ministerial Decision on approval or rejection of the programme is issued.

Training courses on various OSH issues can be organized by: 

  • Public organizations
  • Chambers of commerce etc.
  • The Hellenic Institute for Occupational Helth and Safety  (ELINYAE) and
  • The Institute of Ocuupational Training  (IEKEM-TEE) of the Technical Chamber of Greece

Especially for the training of those employers and employees undertaken the role of a safety technician according to the requirements of the existing law in force, training courses for these specific cases can be organized and by:

  •  the certified Centres of Occupational Training (ΚΕΚ)

 

Educational Institutions

Information is provided on the educational institutions, which include occupational  health and safety courses  in their programme of studies.
