THE STATISTICAL PICTURE OF OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY IN GREECE

The available statistical data concerning occupational safety and health in Greece come mainly from the Social Insurance Institute (IKA), which is the biggest social security organisation and from the Labour Inspectorate (SEPE) , which is the national authority for the enforcement of the OSH legislation.

Statistical data of the Social Insurance Institute ( I.K.A.)

The Social Insurance Institute (IKA) is the greatest social security organisation. It covers almost all employees in the private sector in Greece. This means that the relevant statistical data through the years provide a reliable picture of the course of accidents at work, in respect to the development of workforce.

According to the labour legislation, the employers have the obligation to report all the work related accidents to the Labour Inspectorate. The reported accidents are recorded, investigated by the Labour Inspectors, and they are statistically elaborated and classified by the competent department of the SEPE.
