HELLENIC OSH INFORMATION NETWORK

The role of the Greek Focal Point: A new assignment

According to the Ministerial Decision 80025, (FEK No 845/9-6-2004), the General Directorate of Working Conditions and Health of the Hellenic Ministry of Labour and Social Security, since the middle of 2005 is consisting by three Directorates, as representing in the following:

a) the Directorate of Working Conditions

b) the Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (K.Y.A.E.) and

c) the Directorate for OSH Information Management, Training
and Monitoring of policies on OSH issues.

The Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (K.Y.A.E.) was operating as the National Focal Point for Greece and it was officially announced as the authorised organisation undertaken all responsibilities concerning the role and the activities of the Greek Focal Point for more than a decade, since the establishment of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work.

According to the above mentioned reforming in the organizational structure of the General Directorate of Working Conditions & Health and following an official decision of the Secretary of State in our Ministry (Ref. No 95731/30-6-2005), the Centre of Occupational Safety and Health (K.Y.A.E.) is not acting any more as the Greek Focal Point of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work.

All relevant responsibilities and activities concerning the Greek Focal Point have been assigned to the new Directorate for OSH Information Management, Training and Monitoring of policies on OSH issues.

A brief description of the National OSH Network operation

The Directorate for OSH Information Management, Training and Monitoring of policies on OSH issues through its role as the new Greek Focal Point since the middle of 2005 and via an enacted collaboration with the social partners has undertaken, among other issues, the effort to coordinate the operation and to organise the further development of the already established National OSH Network, in order to:

• interlink and exchange all existing information and resources on OSH issues,
• collect and disseminate OSH information
• provide consultation on OSH issues,
• interconnect all network members and OSH stakeholders at national level,
• support the implementation of the national OSH activities through the FOP’s and the Agency’s annual Work Plan.

A Tripartite Committee is operating as an advisory body, for supporting and consulting purposes of the Focal Point mission and operation. The Tripartite Committee is the fundamental institutional body for the support of actions on OSH and the promotion of the Hellenic National Focal Point work.

It is consisting by representatives from the Ministry of Employment and Social Protection and from the Social Partners Unions, (in correspondance with the tripartite base representation in the Administrative Board of the European Agency, where are participating governmental representatives and representatives of employers and workers organisations from all Member States).

The representatives from the Ministry of Employment and Social Protection and from the Social Partners are jointly participating in the National OSH Information Network meetings, to discuss technical, political and administrative aspects of the Hellenic FOP and the Agency´s information activities.

National OSH Information Network meetings are arranged at regular basis (at least four times per year) and in specific cases such as the FP meetings in Bilbao, EW Seed Money, EW promotional and informative activities, web information, Good Practice Award, SME funding scheme, etc.
