BIBB/IAB survey: "Wandel der Erwerbsarbeit"(Change in the World of Gainful Employment)
A survey on qualifications and gainful employment in Germany

Between October 1998 and March 1999, the "Bundesinstitut für Berufsbildung" (Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training, abbreviated to BIBB in German) and the "Institut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung" (Institute for Employment Research, IAB) conducted their fourth „Erhebung zur Qualifikation und Erwerbssituation in Deutschland“ (Survey on Qualifications and Gainful Employment in Germany). A representative sample of gainfully employed persons in Germany - 0.1% or 34,343 in absolute terms - was asked questions focusing on the subject of "Structural change in the world of work and its impact on working conditions, workload and individual mobility patterns".

The latest "Bericht über Sicherheit und Gesundheit bei der Arbeit" (Report on Safety and Health at Work), for the year 2002, contains evaluations of the BIBB/IAB data concerning workload, workplace requirements, health complaints during and after work as well as gainfully employed persons’ incapacity for work, as follows:

The "Institut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung" (Institute for Employment Research, IAB) has published brochures, which can be ordered here, on the Survey on Qualifications and Gainful Employment in Germany
